BODY CONTOURING

MASSIVE WEIGHT LOSS

Many people who lose a large amount of weight are often left with excess, sagging skin which can be unpleasant and uncomfortable to deal with in daily life. Body contouring becomes an essential component to address this excess skin. Each person’s body has a different reaction to massive weight loss, and it's for this reason, weight loss treatment plans are tailored to meet the patient’s needs.

PROCEDURE

Each patient must understand that their surgical plan will be customised accordingly. What Dr Sooka decides to do depends on the areas that need the most contouring. The entire procedure takes place under general anaesthesia. Excess, loose skin is removed, and remaining tissue is contoured and tailored to achieve optimal aesthetic outcomes.

Dr Sooka specialises in the following procedures:

  • Arm lift: An arm lift (brachioplasty) is a procedure whereby excess fat and skin from the arm is removed, then lifted and tightened for more toned arms.
  • Thigh lift: Also known as a thighplasty, a thigh lift reshapes the thighs to achieve a slim, toned look. There are different types of thigh lifts to target specific areas like the inner and outer thigh.

Sometimes, for extensive procedures, treatments are done in stages to allow the body to heal and prepare for surgery.

RECOVERY

Following surgery, you will wake up in a compressive garment. Recovery from massive weight surgery may take a few weeks, during which time patients are usually off work.

The first few days after surgery, follow these instructions:

  • Avoid strenuous exercise, bending or lifting heavy objects
  • Be active (walking) and drink plenty of fluid to prevent clots.
  • Avoid exercises with arms and thighs as this will place strain on the incisions.
  • Take oral antibiotics and pain medication as prescribed.
