He subsequently completed an 18-month fellowship in reconstructive microsurgery at the Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre, in affiliation with the University of the Witwatersrand - the first fellowship of its kind in South Africa. During this time, he performed complex microsurgical procedures at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital and the Donald Gordon Medical Centre, gaining specialist expertise in microsurgical breast reconstruction, head and neck oncology, trauma reconstruction, and lower limb reconstruction.
