FACIAL REJUVENATION SURGERY
BLEPHAROPLASTY
A blepharoplasty, also known as an eyelid surgery or an eyelid lift, is a surgical procedure performed to improve the appearance of the eyelids. It specifically targets excess skin, fat, and muscle in the upper and/or lower eyelids, addressing concerns such as drooping eyelids, puffy bags, or wrinkles around the eyes.
During a blepharoplasty, incisions are made in the natural creases of the eyelids to minimize visible scarring. The specific placement and length of the incisions may vary depending on individual needs and the extent of correction required.
PROCEDURE
For the upper eyelids, Dr Sooka carefully removes or repositions excess skin and fat. He may also address any underlying muscles that contribute to drooping or hooding of the eyelids. This helps to create a more youthful or refreshed appearance by lifting and smoothing the upper eyelid area.
In the case of the lower eyelids, Dr Sooka can remove or redistribute fat to reduce puffiness and improve the contour of the lower eyelid. This may also tighten to underlying muscles and remove excess skin to diminish the appearance of under-eye bags and fine wrinkles. The incisions are then closed with sutures.
RECOVERY
Recovery after blepharoplasty typically involves some swelling, bruising and mild discomfort. Cold compresses and prescribed medications can alleviate these symptoms. It is essential to follow the post-operative instructions provided by the surgeon, which may include the following:
- Avoid strenuous exercises such as weight lifting, aerobics, jogging and water sports.
- Regularly clean the eyes with eye drops as instructed.
- Avoid rubbing the eyes.
- Apply cold packs as suggested to reduce swelling
- Take pain medication as prescribed to alleviate pain
RESULTS
The results of blepharoplasty can vary depending on various factors, but they generally include a more alert and youthful appearance, with a reduction in excess skin, puffiness, and wrinkles around the eyes. The results are long-lasting, and although the natural aging process continues, the improvements achieved through the surgery can be significant and enduring.
As with any surgical procedure, there are potential risks and complications associated with blepharoplasty. These can include infection, bleeding, dry eyes, scarring, or changes in eyelid sensation.
Blepharoplasty can be a transformative option for individuals seeking to rejuvenate their eyelids and achieve a more youthful and refreshed appearance. Open communication with your surgeon and realistic expectations are key to ensuring a successful outcome.
