BODY CONTOURING
THIGH LIFT
A thigh lift contours the thighs by removing excess fat and skin to achieve smooth, proportioned legs. This procedure may commonly be performed in patients who have undergone significant weight loss and then suffer from excess or baggy skin in their thighs.
During the thighplasty consultation, a complete history is reviewed and a detailed exam and analysis are performed. Moreover, a thorough discussion takes place regarding the anticipated recovery and procedural risks.
Proper selection of surgical candidates is one of the most important considerations in plastic surgery. Ideal candidates for a thigh lift should have weight stability for a minimum of three months. Patients with comorbidities such as poorly controlled diabetes and nicotine use, as well as weight fluctuations, may not be candidates for this type of surgery.
PROCEDURE
The incisions are placed in the inner thigh and may course from the groin along the inside of the thigh. The length of the incision depends on the amount of excess skin that needs to be removed to optimally recontour the thigh. This is dependent on the individual patient’s anatomy. The incisions are closed meticulously with sutures and dressings are applied.
RECOVERY
Dressings are applied which protect the wounds and keep the incisions dry. Suction drains under the skin drain the area of excess blood or fluid. These are removed in the course of the next few days.
After a thigh-lift, follow these instructions:
- Follow postoperative wound care instruction as per the doctor's orders to keep the incisions clean and dry.
- Take antibiotics if prescribed to minimise the risk of
- Avoid excessive force, abrasion or sudden movements to prevent injury to the treated area.
- Driving will be restricted for the first 1-2 weeks until the wounds have healed sufficiently.
Physical exercise will be restricted for approximately 6 weeks.
